Journeys with Jessica in the press

The past few weeks have been truly CRAZY in terms of blog PR, exposure and brand presence and I truly feel that my little blog is starting to gain widespread recognition across the UK, and not just by my biggest only fans (my beautiful friends/family) but by actual proper INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS too! AHHHH!

What’s the reason for this sudden surge in interest I hear you cry? Well, my Blog Awards nomination kinda helps (obvs), then I had my first ever travel conference to blog about (yayy) and, finally, I’ve got my upcoming Contiki adventure to be getting overly excited with.. and it’s not long to go now (OHMYGOD)! I’ve had plenty to keep me busy, and April is absolutely flying by at the mo – I can’t keep up! For those eagle eyed readers amongst you, here’s where you’d have spotted me in the press this month…

I had a press piece in The Oxford Mail

When I contacted an old school friend of mine last month to see if there would be any chance of him covering my blog awards nomination, I just thought he’d be able to do a couple of lines in the corner of one of the pages, just something small, but enough to say that I’d been in the paper! You can just imagine my reaction though when I was told it would be a half page spread and that a photographer would need to come round to the house to do a shoot! WHAAAAATT?! I was totally gobsmacked and couldn’t believe that the paper wanted to feature me so well. The article was published in print and online on 1st April and the whole experience from start to finish was fantastic, a big thank you to Kieran Davey who organised everything!

I had a separate press piece in The Witney Gazette

The Gazette is the sister paper to The Oxford Mail, so I knew that the piece would eventually be published there too. A week later I had a FULL page spread in the paper, with an additional photo and an online piece too. This article actually caught the attention of a few people in the town; I was asked to meet a top travel agent for an informal chat to ses if we could work together (hellooo potential freelance work), and I was also asked to take part in a TV interview for a local Oxfordshire channel. It just shows the power of the press and I’ve gained nothing but positive feedback from everyone who has seen my articles!

I had a TV interview with That’s Oxfordshire

In addition to my published articles, I was also tweeted by local TV channel That’s Oxfordshire and was asked to come in for a TV interview to discuss my blog awards nomination! I was flattered to have been asked and immediately accepted their kind offer. On Thursday 14th April, just a week after the Witney Gazette article, I headed over to the TV studio on Abingdon college campus to take part in my first ever interview. The staff were super friendly and the presenter, Alex, was lovely – she really put me at ease throughout the interview and I had such a fantastic time… sorry if I talked too much 😉

You can view the YouTube link for the interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDg7khswQ_w&app=desktop

…and… I was also on ITV NEWS! (that was totally unrelated to my blog though, FYI)

Today has been a crazzyyy day.. interview with the local press but this time not to do with my travel blogging! #whatisgoingon

In other news this weekend…MUM I WAS ON THE TELLY!!! 😝✌ @itvmeridian #madeit

Finally, and on a totally unrelated matter, I was actually interviewed by ITV Meridian after I happened to hear a sonic boom in the little Oxfordshire town of Witney! I was at work at the time when I heard the loudest noise EVER and totally freaked out! Being the social media geek that I am, I immediately took to Twitter to see if anyone else had heard it and, lo and behold, the site was a frenzy with others who had heard the exact same thing as me. ITV News tweeted and then called me to say they were on their way to our office for an interview! The RAF later confirmed that it was in fact a sonic boom and was caused by fighter jets being too close to our air space. Here’s the video link of me trying to explain what I heard that day…

As you can see, it has been a MANIC start to the month (okay, I know it’s almost over) and I’m hoping the current interest in my little blog continues for many months/years to come! Up next is my UK Blog Awards event and I’M SO EXCITED!

Have you ever been on telly or had some press exposure? I’d love to hear how you handled your new found fame 😉

Hi everyone,

I have had a fantastic year and been to some beautiful places so am excited to start planning my 2016 over the next few months! I’ll be combining this newsletter with my end of year review but I’ll start with December and it’s been a cracker of a month.. here’s what I got up to…

I went to DISNEYLAND!

I had the most MAGICAL time at my favourite place on earth a couple of weeks ago. Me and two of my best friends booked a last minute, Christmassy trip to our happy place and we never wanted to leave! Read my trip highlights for photos, reviews and tips a plenty.. I dare you not to be filled with Disney wanderlust!

I finished my content writing internship!

linked in recommendation

If you saw last month’s newsletter you’ll know that I recently took part in a month long internship for Freedom2Explore. I’ve now finished the internship and got a great LinkedIn Recommendation from my point of contact over at the company. I’m hoping the invaluable experience I gained whilst carrying out the internship will open other doors for me and will enable me to take my first steps into the world of travel/content writing when the time comes. A HUGE thank you to Becky & Jonathan for having me!

I had my works Christmas do!

I’ve been to Eynsham Hall many times over the years and it’s such a gorgeous place- I even had my two school proms there! Here’s me glammed up not looking like my usual, plain-Jane self at alllll!

I published my first post for ShopperLottie.com

My first post for the fantastic Shopper Lottie magazine went live a few weeks ago and I was sooo proud to have ANOTHER piece of published work! My first post was all about London at Christmas, and it’s so beautiful you just HAVE to visit! Read on for some serious city inspo

ITS CHRIIIISSTTMMASSS!

This Christmas I spent some super quality time with my nearest and dearest, and I was able to really relax and enjoy myself at home with my family. We had such a lovely day playing games, exchanging presents and eating lots of yummy food! My family mean everything to me and have been there for me every step of the way, so I was thrilled to be able to share this special time of year with those who mean most to me! Ok that’s enough soppiness now… 😉

Overall I’ve had a fantastic 2015, filled with lots of fun and adventure, but also some personal health traumas and heartache along the way! If you’re an avid follower of my blog (I love you, thank you! If not, why aren’t you subscribed yet?) you’ll know that I recently hit a bit of a brick wall and have been struggling to feel content with my current situation so have decided to make this year the time for change!

I’m yet to decide what to do, I’m torn between interailing round Europe or road tripping across America for a few months… HELP! What do I do?! Your response to my recent Mid Life Crisis article was AMAZING! I was so overwhelmed with all your lovely comments, some from people I know in the travel blogging world, and some from complete strangers! THANK YOU!

I’m now looking forward to 2016 and the life changes I’m going to make to ensure I see as much of this world as I possibly can and I want to meet lots of shiny new people along the way! As ever, I’ll be posting regularly and will keep you all updated. I’ve also got some new blog features planned which I’ll be sharing with you into the new year and I want to say a massive THANK YOU again to each and everyone of you who have subscribed to this blog, liked me on Facebook or followed me on Twitter.. it means the absolute world and I can’t wait to reach out to even more of you in the coming months!

All that’s left for me to say now is… HAPPY NEW YEAR PEOPLE! Wishing you love and happiness and the very best for 2016! Now where’s my glitzy party dress?!…
